Fear, uncertainty and isolation. Many of our immigrant neighbors face extraordinary fear, uncertainty and isolation in the midst of a changing approach to immigration policy in our country. Parents are anxious. Children are terrified.
Pisgah Legal Services assists immigrants in WNC through our “Justice For All Project,”– helping eligible immigrants secure work authorization and legal status. We also help immigrants secure food, housing, and safety from abuse.
Now, calls are flooding in from our clients and other immigrants who are desperate for information and reassurance in the midst of what they perceive as a national siege on families like theirs.
When Danny* and his cousin Luis, ages 7 and 8, got off the school bus and Danny’s mom wasn’t there to greet them, they assumed she had been detained by immigration officials. It turned out that their mother had just been caught in traffic and was a few minutes behind but, by the time she reached the bus stop, the boys were hysterical–sobbing and thinking that they were now all alone.
Now, more than ever, we are being called upon to preserve families and help immigrants protect their basic rights.
A generous donor is very concerned about local immigrant families. She’s made a $20,000 challenge gift to help Pisgah Legal raise funds to help immigrant families in our community.
We have only one immigration law attorney to serve 17 WNC counties. We need more resources to do this work.
Will you stand for justice with our neighbors and make a gift TODAY?
